Eversource's Massachusetts tariff (Electronic Payment Recovery, filed Oct 31, 2024, D.P.U. 20-91-A) provides a fee-free credit and debit card option for residential customers only, with costs recovered through a per-kWh rate. The non-residential fee is not published, and the payment page does not state this. Maximum and networks are not stated. Eversource also serves CT and NH.

Rewards minus fees, twelve payments a year. A negative number means a card costs you money.

When a card is worth it

With no card fee, a card that earns 2% turns a $150 utility bill into about $36 a year. Pay the card in full each month, and confirm the fee at checkout.

Watch out for

Credit cards cannot be used for Auto Pay. Residential card payments are fee-free in MA according to the tariff, but the pay page does not state this.
