When a card is worth it

With no card fee published, a card that earns 2% turns a $120 phone or internet bill into about $29 a year. Pay the card in full each month, and confirm the fee at checkout.

Watch out for

The Auto Pay and paper-free discount (up to $10 per line) requires a bank account or the Verizon Visa card. Ordinary credit cards and new debit-card enrollments do not qualify. A $10 fee applies to payments made through a customer service rep.
